Cameron’s Speech Delay Update // 10.06.13

Speech Therapy

As many of you will know Cameron has a major speech delay and can only say a select few words. We don’t know why he has a speech delay and it’s currently being investigated. Originally we thought/were told that it may be Autism but if you’ve been following the blog, you’ll see that we were fighting against the diagnosis as the only criteria that Cameron fit in the ASD test was lack of speech.

However, looking at the positives. The last week has been amazing.

The last week, Cameron has made a real improvement on his words, on his own, without any prompt from Matt and I.

Cameron’s new words this week have been:

Yes I am – He turned round and said this after he wanted to do something and I had said ‘No you’re not’

Dora – His favourite Show

Ladder – Saw it in a Dora Book

Digger – Saw it in a book

Flower – Saw one whilst we were out for a walk

And the best one:

Ready Steady Go – He came out with this on the way to nursery last week. It comes out as ‘Eddy Teddy ohhhh’ But he is trying bless him.

That is magical indeed! My twin son is a similar age to Cameron (born August 2010) and has expressive speech delay. In the last 3 months he has come on leaps and bounds (still a long way to go to 'catch up' though). So I understand EXACTLY how exciting the appearance of these new words can be! Well done Cameron x

What a wonderful moment and so pleased he's making improvements. Love that one of the phrases was said to answer you back 'Yes I am' 😉 Go Cameron!! xx

I laughed at the time, which probably wasn't the best parenting skills I could have displayed but never mind

Eddy, teddy, ooh. Love it. I am afraid I probably made the mistake of not repeating words enough to J correctly as I thought his pronunciation was so cute. Got told off for that more than once. Great that Cameron is making such progress.

Because Cameron doesn't say much I am always wondering whether I should be telling him to pronounce it correctly or let him get on with it and see how he gets on. At the moment I am just grateful he is making he effort to talk.

Thank you for stopping by x x x

Lovely #MagicMoments. I really miss the days when my little ones said hoohah instead of hoover and called feathers fellas!

Wow that's amazing. Must have been incredible to hear him say ready steady go 🙂

It really shocked me, I turned round to him and had to ask him to repeat it. Really wasn't expecting him to say that lol x x x

Magic moments indeed! Well done Cameron. My little girl also has speech delay; the euphoria when she gets a word is like nothing else (or any new skills tbh)! It can be such a slog and such a worry but progress is brilliant. x

Wow! Ready Steady Go!! Fab!! That's a three word sentence and is excellent for a child with a speech delay! Josh is almost three and has only in the last month or so started on two word sentences! Well done Cameron! x
